Sure, if you want to beat the pavement or shop the camera shows, you MIGHT be
able to find what you are seeking. Why should brick and morter dealers be
the ONLY (your words) ones that offer warranties? The eBay Power Seller
Program requires that sellers offer a 30 day warranty. Even eBay sellers not
in that program often offer warranties. That beats some brick and morter
shops I've been to with short warranties. Many, many camera shops and camera
show dealers are now on eBay. You are buying from the same chaps and at
prices often (or let me say eventually) below what they quote in store or at
the shows!
Many people prefer touch and feel buying. Just look for reputable dealers on
eBay who give full disclosure of condition and pictures that are diagnostic.
It is a trade-off, but well worth it.

You have very complete records of the feedback from previous customers for
all eBay sellers. You have Lloyd's of London insurance on eBay purchases of
$200 or less. There are escrow services for the really squeemish buyers.
Individual sellers will state up front what there terms are for returns and
warranties. That all goes along ways to reducing the risk.

Reason enough to shop there. You are paying California sales tax, though, so
add that cost. Plus you already said you don't know if there are bargains on
eBay, so how can you conclude that they were extremely good buys? What are
your frames of reference on pricing?

Irrelevant for the most part to discussing eBay. Like new in box is the best
you can get from a non-authorized reseller. Perhaps 50f Olympus OM System
items are LNIB, and mostly the cheaper accessories.
