Hi Chuck:
I work in the postproduction industry (video and film). Companies are
forced by goverment to support products for at least 10 years after they
discontinue a product.
In our case Sony has to support U-matic 3/4" machine parts for 10 years
as they are discontinued. There are some models of this format that will be
supported for a couple more years while other models still have 4 and 8
years ahead.
