You may have to transfer those images from an older storage technology
to a newer one. Changes in technology of storage mediums happen fast but
not instantly.

You'll see the change in storage technology coming in time to start
transfering your images from the old to the new storage technology.

If you do nothing, ignoring the technological changes, then you'll be
stuck, like the guy with a bunch of 8 track tapes and nothing to play
them on.
