There may be some of that. (Check out the Nikon F reviews, and you'll see
a classic. Wouldn't you be pissed if the 12/23/99 review had won?)
There are other problems with that style of review (anyone can enter a
review on anything). Snotrag Nikon or Canon owners who write the review
equivalent of a drive-by shooting on the other brand. People who don't own
products, or have never touched them can review them, resulting in
essentially worthless reviews. "Classics" like the Canon AE-1 and Pentax
K-1000 get seriously overinflated reviews from nostalgic reviewers. Are
they both really better than a Nikon F100?
The reviews really need to be taken with a grain of salt, but in
PhotographyReview's defense, there are quite a few good, useful reviews
there. The Olympus reviews in particular, since people who review them
tend more to be actual product users, and the Canonites & Nikonistas don't
feel compelled to go rip on Olympus (or Minolta, FWIW.)
As with any reader-generated review site (www.camerareview.com,
www.epinions.com, www.deja.com) one really has to get in and judge a
product by the relevant reviews, ignore the fluff & drive-by reviews.
