I can highly recommend the Tamron SP 60-300. A vast amount of my work
has been shot with this lens over the past 10+ years and I have always
been very pleased with it. These have adapt-all 2 mounts so if you ever
choose to bail on Olympus (blasphemy) you can use it easily on most
other brand cameras (also makes for better resale ability if you choose
to sell it). These are on eBay all the time for a pretty reasonable
amount. Tamron's SP lenses are typically very good and compare favorably
with lenses from the major camera makers.

As far as the prime lenses, I am contemplating going there myself for
some of my work. I have kinda settled on the Zuiko 300 f4.5 unless a
screaming deal on a Tamron 300 f2.8 comes along when I have the extra
cash. I do use my Zuiko 200 f4 instead of the Tamron when the shooting
distance is appropriate (walls beside courses and driver's racing lines
tend to be pretty fixed which makes a zoom really crucial at times). I
like the 200 f4 because it is so small and light which makes it easier
to do really quick pans.

I own a (Gitzo) mono-pod but I seldom even carry it any longer, let
alone use it. I can't imagine needing it for anything under 300mm
shooting soccer matches. I don't believe in using high shutter speeds to
"catch the action" as that really just freezes things hence loosing the
action effect.

Hope this helps.
