The fact that Clinton had a fling in office is of far lesser importance than
the fact that overall, he has done a fine job as President. Look, the
country has done far better and he will have left the country in far better
shape than that jackass imbecile Ronald Reagan ever did, notwithstanding some
of my fellow listees' grovelling worship of the man. Look, Reagan left us
with tripled the national debt, opened us up for the savings and loan
debacle, tried to undermine the environmental laws, tried to push the view
that ketchup should be considered a vegetable in poor children's lunches,
etc. Some legacy! Under Clinton's watch, enormous annual deficits have
turned into meaningful surpluses, inflation and unemployment are at or near
all-time lows, crime has been halved, we have a progressive environmental
policy, and the overall prosperity has been more equally shared than during
the Reagan boom, which was largely financed by the enormous deficits which
largely benefitted the rich, while the rest of the public got the shaft.
