Dirk,
Good idea, but it won't work. The OM-2 can't react fast enough. Most flash
units have a output duration of 1/1000 to 1/40,000 sec. Shutter speed of
OM-2 is 1/1000 max. The OM-2 TTL/OTF works by controlling the flash output,
not the shutter. That's why the OM-2 and later units have multiple flash
contacts; to turn on the flash, read ready light and turn off the flash.
You will end up with better than no control, but totally variable, depending
on the ambient light and the flash output. It would be better than no
control, but not as regulated as you would like. Only way it could
conceivably work would be if flash output was at max (1/1000), OM-2 could
close shutter if possibly too much potential light, but...

That's what the 4th contact on Nikon flash units is for, to give additional
control to the system. Nikon reads distance from "D" lens, flash units
from SB-24 on up have ability to compensate output for conditions dictated
by photographer.

If I put a non-TTL "normal auto" shoe mount flash (like a vivitar 283)
on a TTL camera like a OM2n, and put the OM2n into auto mode, will the
camera provide correct exposure by taking into consideration the light
from the flash? In other words, do the light sensors in the OM2n
respond to strobe light without a T series flash attached?

Basically, I want to know if the above "trick" will work with the ttl
auto OM2.
