But there's no throughput with a Leica's black shutter curtain. The photons,
having nowhere to go and nothing to reflect them back through the lens, die
and fall harmlessly to the bottom of the camera. They are emptied out of the
camera like toast crumbs whenever the film is changed. That's why Leicas
have a removable base - like a toaster.
