They didn't want to race against a superbike? A Yamaha sports bike
thoroughly trounced a special edition Subaru Impreza car. Yeah, okay, I
concede it was in a bike mag. The only time the Subaru scored was on the
brakes. Same thing happened against a 911 turbo years ago.

(Desperately trying to think of some OM content/relevance, well... I'm
struggling...) If I'd been there I'd have used my OMs and Zuikos. I would
have taken photos of the bike from the relative comfort of the car.

A bike would have been interesting ... top speed would have been the winning feature I expect. The Tornado selects half reheat on the brakes and max (not "combat") after brakes-off, then lifts off (with low fuel weight) at around 170 knots (x 1.15 = 195.5 mph) after around 4,000 feet.

How fast would a generic super bike be at that distance?

I got off the ground in an F-16 loaded with fuel and one centreline external tank 1,300 feet (the first arrestor cable was the limiting factor) at New Orleans at around 160 knots - followed by an accelerating 30 degree climb. That was an exhilarating moment (among many with that little wonder machine).

OM relevance: you could fit a light-tripped OM2 to a point on the race track to catch both while they were together.
