That's an approximation.  Photon flow is restricted by the aperture in a
rangefinder, whereas SLRs have the aperture fully open except for the
exposure time.

So ..... rangefinders should experience the same photonic wear effects 
in those elements in front of the diaphragm, no?


In any event the solution is obvious: prevention is better than cure so
keep the lens cap on.
