Hi all,

I'm a newcomer to this list, and although I've owned my OM-2N for ~20
years
now (I got it when I was about 10 - boy was that a lot of lawnmowing
jobs! :), I haven't really used it for quite a few years.

Anyway, I dug it out, and would like to start using it again. So while
I'm
waiting for my replacement back foam, I thought I'd check the rest of the
camera out. I've come up with a few questions that the collective wisdom
of this list may help answer.

1) For lack of anything else to do today, I measured the exposure times.
Here are the results with the camera set to manual:

Exp. Measured
Time Time (ms) 0.000000e+00rror
------- --------- -------
1 1063.7 6.4
1/2 525.9 5.2
1/4 260.6 4.2
1/8 132.6 6.1
1/15 67.3 1.0
1/30 34.2 2.6
1/60 18.9 13.1
1/125 9.8 22.4
1/250 5.9 47.5
1/500 3.5 73.3
1/1000 2.6 164.5

Obviously, things are not bad until 1/60 or 1/125, then the errors are not
so good. Is this relatively normal? Or can this be improved by adjusting
something in the camera? A related question is will this affect things
when on the auto setting when the indicated exposure time is faster than
1/60,
or does the metering system somehow compensate for this? I may try to
test
the exposure times with the camera on the auto setting and see...

2) Looking through the back of the camera, with the shutter open, there
are
two light sensors. The one on the left is nice and clear, while the one
on
the right is only clear in the center, with a haze around the outside that
doesn't come off, so I assume it is on the back side of the small lens.
Is
this fungus? If so, is it possible to clean it off somehow. These
sensors
look pretty buried, so I'd guess it's quite a job to get them out to
clean.
I'd also guess that this could throw the exposure times off by quite a
bit.
Any suggestions?

3) Any suggestions for a new lens? I currently have only a Tamron 35-70mm
f/3.5 zoom/macro and the ubiquitous Zuiko 50mm f/1.8. I'm mostly
interested in outdoor landscape & wildlife photos, so I was thinking to
get
a moderate telephoto. Any opinions on the new Zuiko 70-210mm zoom? I'd
also like to try macrophotography, but the Tamron will probably suffice
for
that for a while. Since I am a graduate student (although hopefully for
not much longer), budget is a primary concern as well (this also applies
to
questions 1 and 2).

Thanks in advance!
