[OM] sick OM2SP etc.

Dear All

I have an OM2SP (green) which I bought in London, UK, used. I'm wondering
whether to junk it because of its ills and the prohibitively high cost of
repair. It looks well worn and has one dent on the left side of the top
plate. It developed a light leak last year causing a diagonal streak across
the negative when the lens cap/lens had been removed. Also, the wind-on
mechanism slipped in cold weather and the wind-on release knob grommet fell
off. I had these attended to by a repair shop in Finland (112US$) but now I
can see the light leak slightly with a fast film (800 ASA) when I allow
direct sun into the lens mount. I see that 'Olympus Guy' is selling OM
light seal repair kits and wondered whether anyone has had experience of these.

Also, the shutter speed ring has recently become stiff. It turns but
sometimes with difficulty. I wondered if there might be some grit in the
ring and whether I could just unscrew the lens mount and try to clean it
myself. Would it all explode, releasing a myriad of unreplaceable springs
and levers?

I actually quite like having a tatty OM body because I dont worry so much
about it being stolen (like my original OM kit) but I want it to work and I
hate throwing things away.

Are the Beattie screens brighter than the OM 2 series ones (sorry if this is
an old chestnut but I couldn't find the info, even in the FAQ)?

Any opinions?
