[OM] Angenieux

===================================
Anyone ever used an Angenieux 35-70/2.5-3.3 zoom like the one now on Ebay
I didn't know that Angenieux made an OM mount. The seller makes references
and comparisons to the Zuiko 35-80/2.8 and that the Angenieux is
comparable?
===================================

McBroom's Camera Bluebook lists 5 Angenieux lenses for 35mm cameras,
180/2.3 APO, 200/2.8 ED, 28-70/2.6, 35-70/2.5-3.3, and 70-210/3.5.

All were available new except the 35-70 at press time (I have the
1995-96 edition, the last one printed AFAIK). According to Michael McBroom,
the zooms were sold with Leica, Nikon, Canon FD, Contax/Yashica, Minolta,
Olympus, and Pentax K-mounts, but the primes were only sold for Leica,
Nikon, and Canon FD.

The 35-70/2.5-3.3 is listed at:

$725 Mint
$650 Mint-
$600 EX+
$400 EX-

These are USD dealer prices, subtract 20-25 0.000000or buying from an
individual,
but at $200 for Leica R mount. And these are 1995/96 prices.

Suggesting it is comparable to a 35-80mm Zuiko is absurd. The variable
aperture alone renders it questionable as a pro-lens. I'd even prefer
the 35-70/3.6 Zuiko. But Angenieux lenses are uncommon, particularly in
OM mount, so the pricing is influenced by collectibility. I don't know
what the 35-70 angenieux sold for new, but the 70-210/3.5 is listed at
$1300 new, and the 28-70/2.6 at $1500 in McBroom's.

Angenieux is still in business, though they were bought out by Tokina
a few years ago. Their bread and butter is lenses for TV, video, and
movie applications. the Tokina ATX 28-70/2.6-2.8 currently being sold
is just the Angenieux 28-70/2.6 optics in different clothes.
