Hi Phil,
Yes, self-portraits in a mirror can be a lot of fun, I have always used
50mm lenses for it and it has worked very well, the only thing to
remember is that you will need to load your negative into your enlarger
carrier upside down in order to get a print that looks as if someone is
looking at you, or else everything will be reversed. I've done several
different things with mirrors; portraits of people in order to get
double images, portraits of my wife primping and putting on make-up, and
interesting scenery by photographing out of a car window, and including
the side-view mirror in the image.
