Wow, thanks for quick replies, all.

A few replies to replies.

Test rolls: What a brilliant idea. I've read about 4000
suggestions for those, but somehow it didn't sink in quite
enough. :-) It sounds like I will go ahead and get the
polarizer and test it in every configuration I can think
of. :-)

Backup: My only other camera is a minolta freedom sightseer
zoom p&s. It's not great as cameras go, even p&s cameras,
but for outdoor shooting I've gotten good results with it.
It was my only camera on last spring's trip to Washington
(it's nice to have friends all over) which is actually where
and why I bought it. It worked well for the week there,
at least until its main circuit died for no apparent reason.
But it was repaired under warranty and has served me well
since then. It only takes 100 or 400 speed films (why they
wouldn't let it deal with others is beyond me), and I don't
trust it too much -- I usually feed it 400 speed print film
(tri-x or superia) and it's happy. I'm planning to mostly
(or perhaps exclusively) use sensia II 100 film on this trip,
which should work in the p&s if the OM dies or disappears.

Actually, the other thing I've been fretting about is whether
or not to bring another film along. But I think at this point
I'd better just stick to the one film that I've tested before
leaving. I may bring along some ilford hp5+ in case I decide
I need b&w for some strange reason, and I'll probably take
at least a bit of superia for the p&s. But for "real" photos
it'll probably all be sensia.
