I was about to say that Acorns still exhibit this behaviour also - Alt +
<number typed on numeric keypad> inserts the character whose ASCII code
you just typed, no leading zeroes necessary.  However, I've just noticed
that Windows doesn't behave quite like that, e.g. Alt 169 isnt the same
as Alt 0169.  Alt 65 still gives an "A", as does Alt 0065.
