I can see no way in which this company has performed a 'service' for you.  
They have taken your property and damaged it badly and I would say you are 
due compensation.

Furthermore, the type of damage you describe would indicate to me that 
they are not competent to service optical equipment and so should never 
have taken on the work in the first place as they should have known that 
they neither had the correct tools or skills to perform the task.

I would say at the very least they should pay for the replacement of all 
lens elements they have damaged.  However, I think the replacement of 
these elements should be done by another firm as obviously the one you 
dealt with couldn't be expected to do this themselves as they would 
probably just damge the new elements or something else.  They should pay 
for another firm to carry out this work.
