Me too. I always thought Doris Day was too good to be true except when she
was Calamity Jane. (I haven't been to a cinema in thirty years.)

I always thought that job went to Peggy and Al Bundy. :-)

Frank's description of a European married couple doesn't sound quite like
anybody I know in Birmingham but then we don't feel very happy to think of
ourselves as European these days. We didn't mind so much while we had Maggie
Thatcher to protect us from the mad beaurocrats but we have a doormat for a
notional leader now.

As for myself and the 'spousal unit', we don't often have problems with
individual purchases as long as we discuss them first, or even if we're
shopping together when an impulse buy crops up. The problem with my sudden
(and still secret) OM-2n purchase was that I was alone at the time and I
still haven't really lived down the time I unexpectedly came home with a
Velocette Viper motorcycle in November 1961, and we weren't even married
then.
