And there's not as many of them now.  The pawn business in the States
has shifted towards automobile-based loans, where the borrower gets to
keep driving the collateral, while the lender holds the title.  While
cars have held their value, most of the old merchandise used for pawn is
now much cheaper: TV sets, stereos, watches, jewelry and, of course,
cameras.  I've walked into pawn shops where used VCR's and TV's are more
expensive than new ones at Costco.
