I've been meaning to write about my silver cell search results, and now
is a good time. I used to buy S76E cells packaged by Eveready as
HearWell hearing aid cells in a 6-cell rotary dispenser. I got these at
Albertson's Supermarket for about $6 (per package of 6). They lasted fine in
my OM-2s and
OM-4Ts. Albertson's no longer carries them, and I haven't found them on
the hearing aid battery displays at any of the local retailers I
checked. All zinc-air cells now, it seems. I called around to the
hearing aid shops, and finally found a package of 5 Rayovac cells marked
357/A76/SR44/LR44 and "Premium Silver Cell." $8.00. Then I asked my
telemetry engineer, who wears a hearing aid where to find the best
prices and selection. Instead of to a hearing aid source, he pulled out
an Allied Electronics catalog. They carry several brands at $1.18 to
$1.38 each. There is an Allied shop in Ft. Worth with a walk-up counter so I
can get these at quite a good price. Allied has offices in major US
cities and other electronic suppliers may also carry them. Much better than
$3.98 in the drug and camera stores.

YMMV
