Welcome Charles,
I looked at your sample photos and this one in particular

http://www.angelfire.com/mi/fenriz/photo/Camp2.jpg

It looks like vignetting to me. Your photos are not just dark in the
lower corners but in all the corners. The upper corners are brighter
but only because they include the sky. Look more carefully and you will
see that the center is bright and fades rapidly towards all the corners.

If a lens vignettes the vignetting will be worst at maximum aperture.
If my suspicion is correct then when you compare your good and bad
pictures you'll see that the good ones are taken in bright light or with
fast film and the dark cornered ones are taken in low light or with slow
film.

There was some comment on the list recently where someone commented that
the XA4 suffers from bad vignetting but I know nothing of the XA2.
Perhaps someone with an XA2 can make a more informed comment. Does
anyone else think this is vignetting?

... I recently bought an XA2 at the salvation army thrift store for
$7:50... Last weekend, I took it along on a boy scout campout , and when
I got the film processed, I noticed that the bottom two corners on most
(not all) of the prints were darker than the rest of the print.

At first, I thought that it was the result of drug store processing,
but it
appears that the negatives have the same dark corners. I'd appreciate
any
suggestions as to why this might be occuring.

I've done a few quick scans of photos taken at different light levels...
