Tom ,
From your description of a fragile wire going to the flashtube its
sounds like the trigger wire. The thick wires should go to the ends of the
tube. The trigger wire should be wrapped around the outside of the tube near
(but not at) one end. If it is the trigger wire then it does not go to the pc
board itself but comes from one end of the trigger coil which is a small
cylindrical device (possible marked on the circuit board as T102) near the
centre of the same board from where the thicker wires going to the flashtube
ends, are connected. It may be difficult to solder the wire back on the coil
depending how the coil is constructed. The T102 coil is almost directly on
centre from the long ends of the board but slightly offset toward the edge of
the board farthest away from the edge where the thick tube wires are
connected.

Good luck and make sure you short out the 1300uF main flash capacitor with a
clip lead while working on the flash. Best to discharge it first with a
resistor of say 2kOhm or so to avoid sparks.
