I did something rare today and bought a new film scanner. I buy almost
everything used.... Bought it online, so I don't have it yet. I have a
Minolta QS-35, which is fine, but requires you to load each negative
separately. With the volume of shots I'm taking, particularly of my kids
soccer games, it was driving me nuts. So, I went on a search looking for a
scanner that could batch load an entire strip. I narrowed it down to the
lower-end, 2700 dpi scanners, represented by the Acer Scanwit and the Nikon
LS-30 and the 4000 dpi scanners, represented by the Polaroid and Microtek
models.

I knew I wanted a scanner that Ed Hamrick's vuescan supported, and all four
were supported. I spent tons of time on the web researching and
corresponding with others about them and finally decided I'd go for bang for
the buck. With a coupon, the Acer (which is getting rave reviews) was only
$385, shipped. The Nikon was around $600 and the other two well over $1000.
I figure I should be able to get a decent price for the Minolta, especially
since it's a fine scanner, and I'd wait for the next generation before
jumping to an expensive one.

Hope it works out well. I'll post some scans as soon as I get it.

Just thought I'd share.

Tom

P.S. Guess I burned some of the money I made on ebay today.
