I never noticed a difference between the shutter speed ring on the
OM-2S
and my OM-1's. I guess I don't understand what you're talking about.

Joel, I changed from the OM-2N to the OM-2S in late 1985 and was
immediately conscious of the difference. The shutter speed ring around
the lens mount on the 2N was silver-coloured (metal?), was reasonably
broad and rotated smoothly when changing shutter speeds, including
selecting 'B' while pressing the lock button. On the 2S, the shutter
speed ring is thinner, black plastic and, at least in my case, quite
stiff to operate. It moves in sharp, abrupt clicks and is especially
difficult when selecting the mechanical 1/60 sec. or 'B' speeds.

Please don't think that I see this as a major problem; it's no big
deal, just that I consider shutter speed and aperture settings to be
equally as important in manual mode and should, therefore, be equally
as easy to adjust. In the case of my 2S, they're not: the aperture on
the lenses I have is much more convenient to adjust than the shutter
speed on my 2S. This might just be a problem with my particular camera
and not typical of the 2S, I don't really know, although I have read
similar criticisms from others in the past. It has been suggested to me
that I could have the detent lightened and I might do that.
