Before you fly ask your pilot what the regulation-mandated minimum legal
altitudes are?

They are: at least 1,000 feet above any structure or obstruction over
populated areas and 500 feet vertically and horizontally from any structure
or person in unpopulated areas.

If he/she does not respond with an answer similar to this, or expresses any
willingness to "bust the regs" DO NOT FLY WITH THAT PILOT!
