This of course only makes sense when the only reason for using the tripod is
the length of the lens, but not in case of long-time exposures (with these
long telephoto or other lenses) for which the need for a stable mount is the
reason to use a tripod. OTOH, for this kind of exposure the
shutter/aperture-induced vibrations are mostly irrelevant.
