Our school had a number of older computers donated to it about six years ago
by the National Security Agency when I lived in Maryland. They all came in
the normal boxes which
had been placed in heavy shielded boxes that had been put together with
Allen head bolts. Each weighed about 40 lbs/15 kg. Even the cooling fans
over the power supply had special shielding over them.

Each had had the hard drive written over 3x, then degaussed, removed, run
over with a bulldozer, and finally stored in a secure dump. When I asked, I
was referred to an article in the Scientific American that suggested stored
information altered the media in a way that is discernible with a
microscope!
