This is an interesting OM-1. I would hope it is solid gold, given his
asking price. The leather looks to be the aftermarket add-on and my guess
is it's just plated somehow. Did Olympus make a gold one?
Do you guys remember an e-mail I sent out a few months ago about having been
in Oly paradise?
Well, I was referring to Jaap's personal collection at that time...
Now guess what was one of the most interesting things I saw in his
collection? Yes, a golden OM-1 that looks _exactly_ like this one! The lens
on Jaap's golden OM-1 was, I believe, a 50/1.4, but maybe it was an F1.8
after all.
The lens mount (i.e. on the lens is gold, or at least gold-coloured, which
is what makes it a "matched" lens).
Now for the most interesting things:
-According to the stories I've heard/read about this camera, it's a special
anniversary edition and there were only 25(!!!) ever made.
-The seller is Dutch. A coincidence? Well, Jaap asked me about how to go
about selling things through e-Bay a while ago. Put one and one together,
and "add a flavour of identical golden OM-1" I saw at Jaap's place, and I'm
pretty positive that it is actually Jaap's OM-1 that's for sale here!
I'm very surprised by this though, as Jaap is a big time Oly collector, and
I can't imagine _why_ he would sell such a rare item...
$1275!
Somehow, I don't think he's going to get it.
Somehow I think that if there really are only 25 of these cameras ever made,
and if Japanese collectors pay $5000 for a rare hood, that the price might
go up MUCH beyond the $1275 it's currently at...
I'm quite curious to see what'll happen though, and I shall inform with Jaap
to see if this is the one he has in his personal collection...
