Three thoughts:

1) Wide angle and hyperfocal, hyperfocal, hyperfocal. Better than
autofocus in dark rooms for candid party shots. I shoot several
school parties for my wife each year (she's the local K-12 yearbook
editor/sponsor, so guess who the unofficial staff photographer
is...), and focus is almost impossible under these circumstances.
Even good autofocus is slow in the dark. But a 21, 24, or 28 set to
hyperfocal and a decent flash get me what I need.

2) Why make it an all or none decision? Try a digital wonderbrick for
6 months and see how it works out. Nothing says you can't have both.

4) Other Olys - I specifically bought an IS-30 for party shooting,
family events, and times when I wanted to focus more on the event
than the photography (or when I need to loan a camera to someone else
to help cover an event), and the IS-3 gets raves as well. Oly also
makes several digitals.
