I've had the same phenomenon with the OM-4. Battery check and reset does
OK but not enough juice for shutter operation. New *good* 357 batteries
always work.

One other possibility came to mind. Check the self-timer to ensure its
lever is vertical. From all I've read about the OM-2[n] the timer is
mechanical. If it is and operates like the one on the OM-1[n], it must be
turned past a given point to operate correctly. If it hasn't been turned
far enough the timer will not activate and the shutter won't fire, and
neither will the timer reset. It will stay in limbo; neither vertical nor
turned far enough to actuate.

Perhaps someone who is more familiar with OM-2[n] can elucidate on exactly
how this behaves on the OM-2[n].
