Gregg, according to some Asian photographers who have commented on this subject the term has been in use in Japan for quite a while. But I first saw it used in American only within the last few years. I think the internet is responsible for the increased usage, as I have yet to see the term used in any of the more common photography magazines.

Last night I reread my newly rediscovered 4T manual. In it is discusses out-of-focus and soft-focus but never uses bokeh. How long has the term been in use?
