I read the 'bokeh' PDF file and agree, there are aspects of bokeh that cannot be explained by iris shape alone. Most lenses from all manufacturers have similar irises yet produce dissimilar out-of-focus characteristics. The article didn't discuss these factors at all. However it was very revealing in specifically showing how iris shape *does* affect highlight patterns in out-of-focus images. I've observed similar characteristics in P*S cameras which have 3- or 4-blade diaphragms.

Yes. Unfortunately these topics are not covered at all in the document I
provided the link to. But indeed, the "bokeh-killer-test" is a about as
difficult a situation as one can bestow on a lens...
