: The Pen
: compacts would have been cheaper than the Ace and as the half frame market
: was starting to take off, would have sold well.

It surprised me to read in the CIBAF catalogue how cheap the Ace cameras and
lenses were compared to the PEN cameras and other compacts. 1961/62, prices
in Dutch Guilders:

Ace+45/2.8: f.275
Ace-E+45/2.8: f.325
35/2.8: f.120
80/5.6: f.135
80/4: f.145

Auto Eye 35: f.295

PEN: f.120
PEN S: f.145
PEN D: f.255
PEN EE: f.185
PEN EES: f.210
Auto Eye-II f.275

PEN F+38/1.8: f.495
100/3.5: f.245
50-90/3.5: f.475

Like buying a Leica M6 clone for the price of a Mju/Stylus Epic. Of course
these prices must be seen in time perspective. Typical month's salaries in
1961 must have been in the f.100~f.300 range...
