Count me in as one who augmented an OM-1n MD with an OM-4 bought from
another list member. The OM-4 is an amazing advance over the OM-1, but in
my use I use them both weekly. The auto mode on the OM-4 is terrifically
useful. I find it far more useful than I'd have previously thought.
However, the buttery smooth film advance on the OM-1n and the fact that
it'll keep right on working with or without batteries make it a natural
supplement to the OM-4. If you keep your eyes open, and shop slowly and
carefully, it is possible to find good condition user OM-4's for not
terribly much more than great condition OM-1's.

Another thing that I haven't seen brought up in this thread is that while
the meter on the OM-4 is phenomenal, one thing no in-camera meter will do
is incident metering. If this is important to you, then I'd urge you to
consider a hand meter as well as adding either an OM-4 or OM-2p. If you're
in the market for hand-held meters, I think that all roads point to the
Sekonic L-508. It's quite expensive, costing more new than the used cameras
I just mentioned, but it really does solve the problem of multiple meters
once and for all. Again, if you really watch the 'net sales, and pay
attention you may get one of these for substantially less than the going
rate. I've been using one for a couple months, and I'm so glad that I got
this particular model. It's one of the very few photography products that
I'll rave about. (Other than OM's and Zuikos. ;-)
