I have tried many of the more costly options, but have not found any of them
worthwhile. The most important aspect is your writeup, not cheezy but factual
and truthful, good pictures, and if you can throw in just a tad of HTML to
have a larger, colored headline and paragraphs, it makes it look better.
Seems the look of the ad does indeed make the difference. Also, never say
that stupid line "I don't know much about _____". And leave off the busy
blinkers and graphics that take up download time! Make your pics the smallest
jpeg's you can so they will download quickly.State your shipping up front to
save them the time of an email, and do whatever it takes to get really clear
pics.
Yes..all this takes a while, but you'll get twice the return... I am AMAZED
at the money I have made on some of my attic garbage that I took the time to
make look good. Be sure to leave feedback..only about 80 0o ever leave it,
but if you leave good feedback they will usually respond.
Having your auctions end in the evening or weekends is also of
importance..don't let them end on a midweek day or evenign when no one is
around! And make your opening bid approx. 1/2 of what your reserve is so
people won't waste their time thinking you have a ridiculously low
reserve....this is an old eBay rule that too many sellers have not ascribed
to or never knew. Use reserves to protect yourself and don't listen to the
ones that say "I won't bid on an auciton with a reserve"...then too bad, let
them look elsewhere! Protect your investment! Lastly, check your email every
day to answer questions...i can't tell you how many auctions I have dropped
because i never got a response from the seller..dumb!
A couple of times i have had to be out of work for a couple of months due to
a nagging disease, but eBay saved the day by coming thru with some
substantial sales on stuff I was more than willing to part with (can we say
"early marriage"??) I chuckle regularly about some of the items that I have
sold really high..kinda like the "really rare soft case for body with winder"
that the guy from Paris sold for $225 last fall!
