Dear all,

I have received a note, yesterday, from the Indonesian post office,
informing me that a package has arrived from the Netherlands. This is
undoubtedly an Olympus 35SP (42mm/f1.7 fixed lens rangefinder) that I
ordered at the end of March. The note stated that I MUST collect the
package by 15 July and that I need to pay Rp290,000 (that's about US$31
at today's conversion rate).

However, when I sent a messenger to the post office, with the correct
money, he was told that the clerk who was dealing with it was on
holidy, returning Monday 17 July, and they didn't know where he'd put
it. This is typical of Indonesia! I don't know what will happen to it
now but I guess it'll be OK; nothing ever happens to schedule here.

Reminds me of a joke about the Mexican Ambassador to Indonesia having a
discussion with Soeharto. He explained how the word "Manana" could used
in Mexico to postpone indefinitely some issue that was too much trouble
to deal with. He asked Soeharto if there was a word with similar
meaning in Indonesia. Soeharto replied: "Oh, no, nothing's ever that
urgent here."

Regards,

=====
