I shoot black and white all the time with a red 29 filter, which also
produces very nice results on HIE. I don't have much of a problem
shooting under normal light, or even low light with a fast lens.

No. Not really. Particularly if you're using a red 25 or 29 filter -
you'll also be shooting visible light. Most people just make it a
point to shoot at a small enough aperture to account for any
discrepancy.

Lots of folks get excellent results shooting at ASA 400 with a 25 or
29 filter.
