You used to be able to get a metal frame for the Viv 283 that looked a
lot like this.  A gray card, white side facing subject, was slipped into
the frame, and the flash fired straight up into it.  I relied on mine
for years--until I lent the 283 to a "friend" who refused to return it. 
The reflector worked, as do various "whoopy cushion" type reflectors.
