Dear Frank.......
At this moment, I have finished re-upholstering the back of my OM4Ti..... I
used the Tan - lizard - textured calfskin.......
Hmmmmm...... It does look unique...... but I think it should be a darker
shade of tan..... simply because the black paint trimmings stand out too
much from both the champagne and the black....... But I guess with time it
will darken and then assume a character of its own.......... then it should
look just right......
Ah yes now I remember, the OM's were all black..... they looked good.....
That being the case, my R7 (next on the upholsterers bench ) should look
perfect...... whatever the colour of the
leather.... cos its all black........ !!!
Like the handle of your briefcase ? I think otherwise.... I think it will
look great ...... that seasoned look as opposed to the plain UPVC black.....
also ..... don't forget, leather can be cleaned........
oh yes I
forgot to mention, the guy (and tired looking wife..... from all that sewing
and stitching) mentioned that he once had a customer who brought in an old
and hardened camera case.... those twin lens type, he said..... he requested
them to duplicate it..... which they did without any probs.......
All U need is no more than 6 by 6 square inches of skin to cover your
camera..... U only got to make sure the thickness (or rather the thinness)
is right.........
If its so much trouble....... come to think of it..... grab your wife's
handbag and cannibalise it...... skin it alive .....!!!!!! Imagine LUGGERS
walking around with all sorts of funny looking skin..... I can just imagine
someone walking around with an OM ..... upholstered with Louis Vuitton motif
........!!!
Alternatively, go to those dept store sales events, drop by the ladies dept,
look at all
those large wallets and handbags on sale...... since U don't need so much
skin, a checkbook-size ladies' wallet should suffice....... Imagine all the
textures and colours at your disposal...... Bright red...... Ferrari
red..... Tuatara Green..... Hmmmmmm yummy yummy........
Anybody working at Conolly leather.......
Patterns ????? U don't need any. The existing UPVC on your cameras is neatly
stuck onto your camera by some sort of double stick tape..... It comes off
nicely... just peel it off carefully..... No unscrewing whatsoever......
After coming off, it stays very sticky..... so I just paste it on the new
leather and using a very sharp cutter, just cut out the exact profile
.......
I haven't come to the circular holes to cut out yet like the one for the
self timer..... Will keep U guys informed.......
