eBay seems to have virtually decimated every other outlet for buying and selling of pre-owned items. The merchandise section of our local paper's classified ads is down to almost nothing, even on Sunday.

Some non-camera items I've advertised on various web sites (that used to be quite productive) got practically no attention during the past few months.

Then Thursday I put my first item up on eBay (after a month of struggling to get registered, but that's another story), one of the same items that had been ignored elsewhere. Overnight bidding nearly tripled my opening price, and I've received several e-mails.

For better or worse eBay now dominates the market for individuals and small businesses wishing to advertise their items. Only eBay's rather high-handed attitude toward prohibiting certain perfectly legal items from auctions leaves a few niches for specialty advertising outlets.

BTW, is Shutterbug out of business? First I've heard of it.

Has anyone else noticed that the number of camera swap/trade shows has been
rapidly diminishing in the past few months?...

It seems that with the folding of ShutterBug
magazine a lot of the show organizers have thrown in the towel too. This cannot
be good!
