Mat's comments were right on, but I would add that output from the latest
Epson Photo printers (870/1270) will outlast almost all conventional wet
process prints, only falling just short of Cibachrome/Ilfochrome in
longeveity. And when printing on Epson's Heavy Matte paper, the quality of
the print very closely approaches what is available via wet processes.

If you really need a silver halide print of a digital image, these are
available from companies like shutterfly.com, and are likewise of high
quality.

Like many, I use both digital cameras ( mostly for snapshot & documentary
purposes) and the trusty OM film cameras for my 'art' photography. By
scanning film and printing on the Epson, I can have some of the best of both
worlds - extremely high quality scans of film with it's still unmatched
resolution and color quality, and the tools of the digital darkroom to alter
and print my images as I want them to appear.

For now, film and digital cameras will coexist, each having their strengths.
I do wish for that Holy Grail - an OM digital body that will let me
indiscriminately use my Zuikos, but it may be a long time coming if it ever
does.
