Excuse my lack of knowledge, because I have never owned a "big" lens.
Just saw some from a distance. So, my question is; how do the drop in
filters work? I presume they are in between some elements. For the UV
case, for example, it attenuates the UV rays, but where do the cancelled
light go? Are they reflected? If so, they are reflected back to the other
elements.
If absorbed (I do not think so), it should heat up. For the polarizers,
things seem even more severe. Companies seem to try to eliminate the effect
of back reflections by MC, but the filter just deliberately reflects back
something.
