I have no experience on Silverfast, but heard that it was very
expensive. I do have the Vuescan and LS2000. For scanning negative
Vuescan is excellent, for slides, Nikon's original software provide an
extremely accurate color, I need only minimum leveling before output
to my Polariod Propalette 8000 to get a closely matched duplicate.

But on the other hand I won't recommend the LS2000, the resolution is
a bit poor (although very small) as compared to the Minolta Scan
Speed. I have pay with the Scan Speed for a few days, of course you
will be more interested on the new Minolta model - Scan Elite, it also
has dust removal feature like the Nikon.

Besides resolution, my Nikon also suffer from noise, which appeared on
the higher contrast lines at 2700 DPI. I took it back to the Nikon
repair center, they said it was normal and tested one LS2000 that was
just repaired for another customer, same problem happen.

After I insist that it was a fault since my Nikon LS-10 does not have
this. They asked me to left it for checking, they also took my sample
side (which shot with Velvia, has some white lines on blue background)
that can immediate shown the defect when scanned.

Two weeks later they call me to get back my scanner and said they have
contact Nikon Japan and still can't locate the problem, they will send
my side to Japan for checking and will inform me once they can get it
solved. Of course I was not happy, then they open a brand new LS2000
and demonstrated it to me - the same problem was there too! They give
me a solution - scanning the slide at 16x multi scanning mode, okay it
works but it takes five minutes per slide!

It happen over one year ago, nothing here till then!
