Well, ummmmm, uhhhh, OK, yes there were some kinda shenanigans with Picture
Window (works much like PhotoShop).  Used the digital equivalent of an "off
center" spot diffuser.

The same effect at time of making the photograph can be done using a lens
hood with a large UV filter on front of it with vaseline applied to the
areas where diffusion is desired.  Something like the Cokin system can also
be used.  The lens has to be stopped down fairly tight so most of the ray
paths other than those from subject-to-lens parallel to the lens axis get
blocked by the diaphragm.  Mounting a larger filter on the end of a lens
hood to move it away from the lens even a little also helps.
