hi Tim,

did you by any chance get to look at the Foveon digital camera? Foveon
apparently has a stand of their own there. It should interesting to see
the 2.5m high Foveon print at the stand. The approximately 2.4Meg linear
(fullRGB) pixel resolution claimed for their latest sensor thus corresponds
to about a 1mm pixel size for the 2.5m enlargement. Some of their press
releases imply the sensor can resolve higher resolution for fine detail. It
may be they have a higher pixel count and do some local processing on the
chips to reduce moiré /aliasing noise before saving the data at a lower
resolution. This would fit into the previous work of Carver Mead (Foveon's
founder) into analogs of neuronal networks for retinal and audio signal
processing.
Hasselblad also has just announced they will use the Foveon
prism/sensor assembly with a new camera of their own. Did they show
prototypes by any chance? Interestingly the Hasselblad camera apparently
will accept some Cannon lenses with an adapter! This is probably just
because the Foveon system currently supports these lenses. Let us
know what the results look like if you get a chance to view any prints.

unfortunately not I've seen the Foveon Stand but have no time to visit it as
it was late in the afternoon and I had still a lot of things to see...
You know the Photokina is a very huge fair and if you want to see it in
details it needs you 3 or 4 days and I had only one...
I only have an article in a Business magazine talking of this Foveon's
camera which need a host computer to be operated. In this article they
explain that the camera linked to the host computer through a FireWire
connection can have a capture rate of 1 image per second. The camera is
announced for the 4th quarter of this year.
Sorry if I haven't more news
regards
marc
