Hmm, and does Zeiss have lens production facilities in Japan? AFAIK
not.

Zeiss had not the capacities to produce large numbers of 35 mm lenses.
After the deal with Kyoceria, they decided to have the production in
Japan because that's the country were they expected to sell most of
the stuff.

AFAIK Hasselblad lenses are made by Zeiss in Germany, with Rollei it's
different. AFAIK Rollei receives complete sets of lens element which
are assembled and coated by Rollei.

I don't know exactly the production depth of Zeiss lenses "Made in
Japan", how many parts are imported (glass, raw, polished lens
elements, etc.), but only the more exotic, rare and expensive Contax
lenses are entirely made in Germany. Nonetheless all Contax lenses are
Zeiss, not Kyoceria designs.

Some of this exotic glass is also sold under other brand names like
the 15 mm Leica Super-Elmar.

But that's because Rollei is a separate company and not a joint
venture like the "Contax" cameras.

I think Zeiss uses Kyocerias facilities in Japan, but I'm no Zeiss or
Rollei specialist, if you can teach me different you're welcome.

Are you sure, I've different information.

Like this "Leica" lens...

For Rollei lenses I think it's different.
