OK, ok.  I'll admit being wrong. I was under the 'impression' that the 1270
could dither the 6 colors better with more bits.  Guess not.

Well, don't cave so easily, Tom. First off, will it even print a 48 bit TIFF? If so, it may be making some use of the extra information.

As I mentioned, none of my mid- to high-end printers will even accept a 48 bit TIFF, but they're all Postscript printers, and I'm willing to be convinced that a native Epson driver might do otherwise.

 I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but I tend to disbelieve this.
 The human eye can only resolve about 2,000 different colors, so
 PRINTING more bits shouldn't result in any discernible difference.

 The only reason I could imagine would be to reduce the "combing" I
 mentioned in another message, but only if the printer was doing some
 value range processing.

 I've been researching and using high-end printers for three years,
 and I haven't come across one that would even print a 48 bit TIFF. If
 I send a 48 bit file to my 50" giclee printer or either of my color
 > lasers, they barf on it!
