Thought about it, but it seems shortsighted. Suppose you are in the US and
decide to black out the meter-scale. Then you travel to Europe and find
you can't focus! :-)
[Seriously, I have a couple bits of Olympus equipment with only
foot-measures and it's really annoying...]
