That's an easy question for me -- if I had to take one lens it would be
a 28mm.  Of course, I've only got one of those and a 50mm, but I did
borrow a couple telephotos for a while so I'm not just making this up.
I find the 28mm is wide enough to use indoors but not so much so that
its inherent "distortion" makes it hard to use.  I like it better than
the 35mm on my Minolta (gasp) p&s (in terms of perspective).

Plus, if you're not intending to blow up a frame too much (which I do
not), you can always crop to a small portion of the wider frame and
get the same effect as a longer lens.  You can't go the other way with
a longer lens.  :-)
