I am with you, Lex.

Of course Mike must be able to post about problems with his Olympus
equipment when photographing racing events. So must you, when shooting
your gun collection.

I would say a simple set of rules must be enough to serve as a basis
for the necessary self-moderation. Necessary, that is, to prevent
readers from being annoyed - and to keep list traffic within limits at
the same time.

Just a few ideas:

1. All Olympus related subjects are welcome. If you want to sell, buy
or trade, please use the corresponding tags [FS] etcetera. Do not
point to auctions on other platforms - especially not to your own.
2. Other photographic subjects with little or no Olympus content _may_
be valuable to the list members, and of course they should be
tolerated. Careful judgement by the poster is needed. Use of the [OT]
tag might be appropriate.
3. In principle all postings without any photographic content are out
of bounds. But let's not be too strict: if someone thinks that some
other list members cannot live on without sharing his views or ideas,
let him take responsability and post. The [OT] tag is mandatory here.
4. If a message is important to specific list members only, use
private email. If you want to post about subjects covered in other
newsgroups, use those.

Main issue: we should all keep in mind that we are responsible for
what we write, and be aware of the possible consequences of our
postings when read by fellow list members. 'Meanings are in people'
(Berlo).

But I am the last one to say that this is always easy...

Please amend!
